A peek at Charlie Crist's bottom line

Gov. Charlie Crist's net worth grew 4 percent during 2007.

"The people's governor," in his required annual statement of assets and liabilities, lists a net worth of $457,262, slightly higher than last year's figure of $438,938. He lost a little money in an investment account and qualified for a federal income tax refund of $1,793. (Crist filed a copy of his tax return in lieu of a complete financial disclosure form. It was prepared by a Clearwater accounting firm, Kirkland, Russ, Murphy & Tapp).

The single governor's assets include household furnishings and cars he listed as worth $125,000, a Fidelity IRA, investment account and state deferred compensation account along with his $140,000 salary as governor. The frugal Crist, whose legal address is a rented condo in downtown St. Petersburg, reports no liabilities -- no mortgages, no loans and no credit card balances.

Among Florida's major elected officeholders subject to state financial disclosure, Crist is the poor kid on the block. At the other end of the scale is Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, with a net worth of $10.1-million, followed by Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson, $6-million, and Attorney General Bill McCollum at $1.4-million. Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp's net worth is $2.3-million.
