Obama and the keys to the city

ST. PETERSBURG--City officials want to give Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, a key to the city. Thing is, Obama's people aren't sure they want it.

City Council Member Karl Nurse said he called Obama's campaign earlier today about the proposal and staffers didn't immediately accept. Instead, they told Nurse that Obama's schedule was already planned, but they would get back to him. More at Bay Buzz.

As a side note, I once wrote about the keys to St. Pete, which hopefully have been improved upon since I left the City Hall beat: "Less than 2 inches long, they are actually key-shaped lapel pins bearing a dime-size city seal. They look a little like souvenir spoons sold in airport gift shops, only flimsier. They come pinned to a piece of gray foam inside the kind of plastic containers that sometimes hold Mexican jumping beans."
