The resume of Erin Isaac, Gov. Charlie Crist's communications director, landed at John McCain's state headquarters two months ago, but Crist's chief spokesperson insists she was not job-hunting.

Her former colleague in the governor's office, Arlene DiBenigno, McCain's Florida director, sent an email May 12 (at left) to McCain's regional campaign manager Buzz Jacobs, touting Isaac's "wonderful relationship with members of the Florida and national media," adding: "I believe she would be an asset to the team." DiBenigno noted: "She hasn't discussed with anyone and would appreciate confidentiality." Isaac decided to stay put in Crist's shop, where she earns $100,000 a year.

"I did not apply for a position. I haven't applied for a position," Isaac said. "I'm focusing on my duties as the governor's communications director and I'm happy to help in any volunteer position I can in the campaign."

Mario Diaz, the former anchor for St. Petersburg's CBS affiliate.

At the top of her two-page resume, Isaac listed her job as "Communications director, January 2007 - present." But she got the position in July 2007. She said the earlier date was a typo, and added that the date meant her entire time with the governor's office.

She also listed the title of "political communications director," in which she said she acts as "chief political spokesperson" for Crist. Isaac emphasized that her frequent attendance at political events with Crist is on her own time and using her personal cell phone and she does so partly to improve the access of Tallahassee reporters to Crist.

Crist is known for demanding a high level of loyalty from key people, and Isaac is one of his most trusted advisors. She said she's "100 percent committed" to Crist.
