Boulware took 'Nole pride too far, FSU says

Republican Peter Boulware, the former Florida State football star seeking a House seat in Tallahassee, has campaign signs and literature that would make any FSU Seminole proud. Since he's running in a district full of FSU alumni, the strategy makes obvious sense. On Boulware's campaign leaflets and signs, his last name is underlined by the familiar garnet and gold spear. Make that was.

For all of his exploits on the gridiron at Doak Campbell Stadium, Boulware got a cease-and-desist letter from FSU's trademark licensing director, ordering him to "delete any and all use of registered trademarks of the university from your campaign materials and your website." The letter, from FSU's Sherri Dye, did not mince words: "Please take the necessary steps to retrieve any signs bearing our marks from circulation, and proceed as quickly as possible to delete our marks from your website and any other campaign materials."

Boulware quickly complied, even painting over the spear head on his signs and other materials. Read Boulware's respectful response here.
