Crist fine-tunes media strategy

The need to manage three potential hurricanes in the same week as the Republican Party's national convention is prompting some adjustments to Gov. Charlie Crist's media strategy. Crist repeated Tuesday that he is not likely to attend the convention in St. Paul, where he was to have been a prime-time speaker Thursday, the same day Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to morph into a Category 2 hurricane off Florida's east coast. Crist also scrubbed a planned appearance on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, where the conversation was not likely to focus on wind gusts, emergency shelters and flash flooding.

"I've cleared the governor's schedule of media out at the convention," said communications director Erin Isaac. For Crist to do any national TV this week, it appears it will have to be weather-related.
