Lawmakers chartered lobbyist's plane to big game

A few legislators looked bleary-eyed at Friday's all-day session. The five House members, all proud Gator graduates, paid to charter a plane owned by a lobbyist and flew to Miami to watch the BCS championship game won by the Gators, 24-14. They got back to the capital at 4 a.m.

The flying lawmakers, all Republicans from the Orlando area, were Reps. Alan Hays, Chris Dorworth, Bryan Nelson, Steve Precourt and John Tobia. Nelson emphasized that each legislator paid his own way to comply with the gift ban from lobbyists to legislators. "I'll give you my canceled check when it comes in," said Nelson, wearing a bright orange tie adorned with alligators. (story here)
