Iorio considering U.S. Senate run

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio said today she's considering making a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez.

"I'm analyzing it," she said. "I'm looking at all the facts."

Iorio, a Democrat, said several people approached her about running when Florida's chief financial officer, Alex Sink, also a Democratic, decided not to run.

"I just wouldn't be doing the right thing if I didn't do some analysis," Iorio said. "It's an open Senate seat that doesn't come up very often. I need to give a full hearing to everyone who wants me to run."

Iorio's second and final term as mayor ends in March 2011. The Senate race is in November 2010.
