Sansom ethics complaint takes baby step

The State Commission on Ethics has determined an ethics complaint against House Speaker Ray Sansom is "legally sufficient," according to the Clearwater man who filed the grievance.

It is an important but small hurdle in the process. The Commission on Ethics met today, but since the initial step is done in executive session, it is not known what happened. A commission spokeswoman would not comment.

But Dave Plyer said he was informed today that his complaint was in the second stage, meaning it was found "legally sufficient" and now is under review. The Commission must then decide whether there is probable cause to continue. It meets again March 6.

"I'm pleased it's gotten that far," Plyer said.
