Crist keeps Martinez on Board of Ed
Roberto Martinez, the Coral Gables super lawyer and longtime adviser to Republican governors, was reappointed to a second term on the Florida Board of Education today by Gov. Charlie Crist. Martinez, 55, was first appointed to the post by Gov. Jeb Bush. He will serve through Dec. 31, 2012. His appointment requires Senate confirmation.
Martinez chaired Crist's transition to his attorney general position, and he was a member of Bush and Crist's transition teams after each was elected governor. Martinez was also appointed by Crist to serve on the now-dismantled Taxation and Budget Reform Commission.
Martinez is a partner in the Miami law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson. He is a former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. He received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and has a master's degree in accounting from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.
