Thrasher's lobbying days winding down

So it looks like Friday won't be Sine Die for the Legislature, which returns next week to vote on the 2009-10 budget. But Friday is a Sine Die of sorts for John Thrasher.

Friday is the last day of lobbying for Thrasher, the former House speaker who joined Southern Strategies in 2001 and has since become one of the state's most powerful lobbyists. He plans to run for the Jacksonville Senate seat long held by Jim King, who could leave early if selected as the state university system chancellor this summer.

"People say, 'What about the money?' Well, I'm okay and my wife's okay," Thrasher said. "There are other things I want to do with my life. I'm 65. I'm not bored, but I'm ready to do something else."
