Bill Nelson, 'a very important man,' says emerging public option is attractive

U.S. Sen Bill Nelson just got pinned down by MSNBC's Dr. Nancy over whether he will "go to bat for a public option." He stumbled, just briefly, and who can blame him? The idea was thought dead. But Nelson quickly said there are several ways to define a public option, including the so-called trigger proposal, which would kick in if traditional private insurance does not meet benchmarks.

Told Nancy Pelosi scoffs at the idea, Nelson said, "Different people get hardened into their political positions."

He said he liked an emerging plan by Sen. Chuck Shumer, D-New York, that would create a public plan that has to compete on the same level as private insurers. "That one is very attractive to me but we’ll have to see ..."

Dr. Nancy thanked Nelson and called him a "very important man."
