Rep. Buchanan: Let the Sunshine on secret health care talks

Invoking Florida's renown open meeting law, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan has gained considerable support for a resolution that seeks to open up the closed-door negotiations on health care reform.

“The State of Florida leads the nation with one of the toughest right-to-know laws in the country,” the Sarasota Repubican said in a news release touting 100 co-sponsors. “Florida’s strong Sunshine Law guards against back-room deals and secret negotiations by government officials.  It’s time for Congress to follow Florida’s lead and ensure that any conference committee meeting on health care reform be conducted in the light of day and under full public view.”

Buchanan’s resolution, H. Res. 84,7 would put the House on record against secret deals on health care reform legislation.
