Obama nominates Allan Katz for Portugal ambassador post

Former Tallahassee city commissioner Allan Katz, a lawyer and lobbyist who helped run President Barack Obama's Florida campaign, just got nominated by Obama to be ambassador to the Portuguese Republic.

Katz, an Akerman Senterfitt attorney, meets regularly with CFO Alex Sink,and was appointed by her to serve on the Citizens Insurance board. He has previously served as assistant Insurance Commissioner for Florida. He also served as General Counsel for the state's Insurance Department. He also worked as General Counse for the U.S. House of Representatives Commission on Administrative Review; Legislative Director for Congressman David Obey, and Legislative Assistant to Congressman Bill Gunter.

Katz has a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and holds a law degree from the American University, Washington College of Law.
