Crist and McCain 'smoking' different stuff?

Sen. John McCain said this morning on Imus that he'd have to be "smoking something pretty strong" to vote for the $787 billion Obama stimulus package earlier this year. "Hell no," he barked when asked if he voted for the bill.

That, in turn, has Marco Rubio supporters asking what was Gov. Charlie Crist smoking when he embraced the package and then said he would have voted for it. (Crist, of course, endorsed McCain in the presidential primary.) You could ask the same question of the GOP-led Florida Legislature, which is padding its budget with Obama bucks. But the point is the increasingly negative perception of the stimulus continues to create problems for Crist and his bid for U.S. Senate.

Speaking of McCain and his 2008 run ... You have probably forgotten that he suggested, without much detail, cuts to Medicare. Obama tried to make an issue out of it. Fast forward to the present: Now it's McCain who is hammering the Democratic health care bill for cuts to Medicare. Yesterday, the Arizona Republican offered an amendment to prevent cuts. Quick to issue a news release in support: Charlie Crist.
