Fair Districts reps back out of Haridop committee invite

Sen. Mike Haridopolos, chair of the Senate committee dealing with redistricting, says representatives of the Fair Districts movement just declined his invitation to them to speak before his committee next week. And he's none too pleased.

During the November committee week, Fair District representatives told committee members -- who clearly have lots of questions and concerns -- they would return this month to lay out more information and answer questions regarding their proposed constitutional amendment.

But Haridopolos said this morning they've apparently changed their minds.

“I want our members to be overwhelmed by the facts as they move forward," said Haridopolos, who has expressed his concerns over their proposal. "And given the myriad of questions that Republicans and Democrats have raised, I would think they would be eager to come to our committee and speak."

“I am really surprised they are not taking us up on this opportunity. This is a once in every 10 years process, and it’s important that not only the senators but the public have all the information they need on this issue.”
