Sen committee will explore 'legal options' vs Fair Districts

The Senate's redistricting committee decided this morning to, during its January meeting, discuss and review "all the legal options" to deal with the Fair Districts redistricting initiative -- including challenging the proposed constitutional amendment before the state Supreme Court.

"This ballot language is misleading," said Sen. John Thrasher. "I think we need to find a way to bring this back to the Supreme Court."

Haridopolos said he'll have legal staff come back next month to "present the potential legal options, and it could be a lawsuit. It could be that route, but it could be others. We owe it to the taxpayers."

Sen. Jeremy Ring cautioned, though, that any constitutional amendment has "lots of obstacles" to get on any ballot, "and I don't know that we have to take that route."
