Is Thrasher crushing Day in Fla GOP chair race?
Yesterday I posted an item - with plenty of qualifiers that we couldn't vouch for it accuracy - about a poll purporting to show that as of last Thursday Florida GOP chairman candidate Sharon Day was overwhelmingly leading John Thrasher among members of the executive committee. I was quickly persuaded (ie bludgeoned mercilessly by Sarah Bascom) to remove the item because the validity of the poll could not be established.
Well apparently Sharon Day supporters have been e-mailing around a screen grab of the Buzz post, much to the consternation of team Thrahser, which says its hogwash. Thrasher spokeswoman Sarah Bascom:
Excluding elected officials, John Thrasher has released 70 public endorsements, Sharon Day has released 32. In Sharon Day’s last release of 18 endorsers, more than half were already previously released by her campaign. Specifically, she has publicly released the Lee County Delegation 3 times.
In a Sharon Day supporter’s fictitious vote count number released yesterday, their claim of a 149-67 in favor of Day is suspicious in how they claim John Thrasher has 67 votes, which is exactly how many his campaign had publicly released as of yesterday (now his public support is 70 with more added to the attached list we are making public), again that does not include any elected officials, of which a vast majority are supporting John Thrasher. Additionally, there are a number of firm Thrasher supporters who have preferred not to be public as they feel this is an internal party matter and do not wish to play this out in the media.
The credibility of their vote count is clearly in question by their claim that Sharon Day is receiving 149 votes when only 32 people are willing to be public about their support (only 21%), while at the same time they claim John Thrasher is only receiving 67 votes while he now has 70 public supporters (104%).
