Why did Charlie Crist skip event with Jeb Bush?

The charity gala set in St. Petersburg has been buzzing for days about Charlie Crist at the last moment canceling an appearance at a fundraising dinner at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. He ticked off a lot of hometown pals and caused plenty of speculation that he backed out because he was wary about being in the same room with Jeb and Columba Bush. Columba is on the museum's board.

That doesn't sound like Crist's style, but we asked for clarification from his campaign spokesman: "Gov. Crist had a last-minute family emergency so was disappointed he would be unable to attend the event. The issue is a private matter."
