Paula Dockery's interesting explanation of the ultrasound abortion bill

Speaking to the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club this afternoon in St. Petersburg, Lakeland state Sen. Paula Dockery, a Republican running for governor, offered an interesting explanation about her vote for the controversial ultrasound abortion bill.

The bill, which Gov. Charlie Crist is likely to veto, requires women who want an abortion in the first trimester of their pregnancy to first get an ultrasound exam.

Dockery voted for the bill as a member of the state Senate, saying it was part of a larger health care bill that she supported.

But if she were governor, Dockery said she would veto the same exact legislation.

Let's slow that up.

State Sen. Dockey voted yes.

Gov. Dockery would have vetoed the same exact bill.

"If I was governor, would I sign the bill? No."
