Rick Scott spending $4.7 million on TV this week
We wouldn't have thought there was even that much TV time available to buy, but now we hear Rick Scott yesterday added another $1.3 million to his August 18-24 broadcast and cable TV buy. That brings the total to - get this - $4,740,510. Looks like Bill McCollum and allied political groups bought about $3.1 million in TV time, though a good chunk of it covered last week.
All told, Scott and his Let's Get to Work committee have spent $38,960,313, while McCollum and assorted pro-McCollum political groups have spent $13,671,277.
Alex Sink spent about $854,000 for her first TV ad, while the Republican Governors Association has spent about $738,000 on ads attacking Sink.
Scott was asked at the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club Tuesday whether he would follow the lead of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates and donate half his wealth to charitable causes.
"If you look at what I'm doing, I'm spending on this race,'' Scott responded. "What we are doing with our success so far is trying to be active to try and improve what we believe are the most important things. Right now, for me, the most important thing is, I believe, it's the time to elect an individual who has a business background to change the business in this state. That's why I've invested in this campaign and why I continue to invest in this campaign, to try to change the direction of this state."
