Acting commissioner of IRS has resigned, as Rubio and others called for

President Obama just announced from the White House East Room that Steven Miller, the acting commissioner of the IRS has resigned, a step Sen. Marco Rubio and other Republican lawmakers sought. Obama also promised to take other action in light of the news that the IRS was singling out tea party and other conservative groups.

"Resignation of acting #IRS chief appropriate," Rubio tweeted. "But doesn't change the #obama #cultureofintimidation that led to #irsscandal."

The news capped a day in which the White House was scrambling to contain a number of scandals: In the morning, Obama asked Congress to pursue shield laws for reporters, a reaction to news the Justice Department got phone records from AP reporters. This afternoon, the White House released a large cache of emails related to Benghazi. And now, his tough words about the IRS.
