Ben Carson endorses Ron DeSantis for Senate
Onetime presidential candidate and Florida resident Ben Carson is endorsing congressman Ron DeSantis for the U.S. Senate, his campaign announced Thursday.
National political watchers had speculated Carson, a neurosurgeon, may jump in the Senate race himself.
Thursday's endorsement should put that to rest.
"In the Senate he will fight for the Constitution and for a strong national defense. He knows we must repeal Obamacare, protect life and defend religious freedom," Carson said in a statement. "Floridians don’t need to guess if Ron DeSantis will fight to change Washington – all you have to do is look at his proven conservative record. I urge all of my supporters in Florida to do everything they can to elect him. Ron DeSantis has my vote.”
Carson joins other very conservative politicians to support DeSantis, including Sen. Mike Lee of Utah.
DeSantis is running against congressman David Jolly, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, homebuilder Carlos Beruff and defense contractor Todd Wilcox in the Republican primary to replace Sen. Marco Rubio.
