Bob Buckhorn helps Clinton campaign bash Trump over housing market comments
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn teamed up with the Hillary Clinton campaign today to denounce comments from Donald Trump about the housing market crash.
“We were ground zero of this mortgage meltdown,” Buckhorn said on a conference call organized by the campaign. “I’m not sure how you make America great again by rooting for it to fail so you can make a quick buck.”
Democrats have seized on several remarks Trump has made, including in a 2006 audiobook from his Trump University in which he responded to a question about how the real estate market could be headed for a "spectacular" crash.
"I sort of hope that happens because then people like me would go in and buy," Trump said.
Trump publicly said he did not think the market would collapse, but it did in a big way, especially Florida.
Buckhorn was asked about polling showing a tight race in Florida and said he was not surprised. “It’s always going to be tight here. We’re a purple state.”
Naturally, though, he said Clinton would prevail.
The Clinton campaign organized Democrats across the country to speak out about Trump and also released a video about his remarks.
