Bob Graham endorses Patrick Murphy in Florida's U.S. Senate race
Former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham this morning officially endorsed U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, to be the Democratic nominee for Florida's U.S. Senate seat.
Graham, on a conference call with reporters, said Murphy represents the future of the party and would make an effective ambassador for Florida in Washington, D.C.
Murphy is running against fellow U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, in the Aug. 30 Democratic primary. Asked about Grayson, Graham emphasized that his endorsement is "totally postive toward Patrick Murphy" and not about the candidates he is running against.
Murphy said he is humbled by the endorsement and called Graham a mentor.
Grayson said last week that Murphy's endorsements from current and former elected officerholders was of little concern to him. Last week Murphy rolled out endorsements from 46 of 188 current U.S. House Democrats. Grayson said he doesn't spend much time trying to get inside the Beltway endorsements.
Grayson meanwhile was celebrating his own endorsement on Monday. Grayson was scheduled to hold an event with the members of the Communications Workers of America in Daytona Beach.
