Brian Ballard bails on Bush, citing attacks on Rubio
Prominent lobbyist and fundraiser Brian Ballard says he's quitting the Jeb Bush team.
“I think the world of Jeb Bush. He was a great governor of Florida and is a really good person, but the campaign has hijacked his message” Ballard told Politico.
"The campaign has become negative, one that is about attacking and trying to bring down Marco Rubio. And that doesn’t sit well -- not only with me, but with anyone who knows the two,” Ballard said. “Marco’s a friend of mine. I didn’t sign up for a campaign that was going to be negative and attack a bright star of the party’s future. It doesn’t make sense. I’m over it. And I’m done.”
Ballard stopped raising money for Bush three months ago, according to the report. (Back then, Bush and Rubio kept their jousting to a minimum.)
Rumors Ballard would abandon ship have been circulating in Tallahassee, something he knocked down as recently as Monday.
"Nope," he responded via text when asked if he was raising money for Rubio. "I have friends and partners helping Trump, Hillary, Marco. But that's no different now then the past."
He added in another message, "I will let you know if that changes :)"
