Buchanan gets fined for paying D.C. taxes late
U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan was hit with more than $1,000 in penalties and interest charges on a 2012 property tax bill on a home he and his wife maintain near Capitol Hill, records show.
“The three-week delay was inadvertent and rectified almost immediately,” said Max Goodman, a spokesman for the Longboat Key Republican and four-term member of Congress.
Records from DC’s Office of Tax and Revenue, show the property on 23 D Street S.E. was late in paying the 2012 taxes, resulting in $801.87 in penalties that were paid on Oct. 5, 2012. A total of $203.27 in interest charges were levied against the property and fully paid as of April 23, 2013, according to records with the Office of Tax and Revenue.
