Charlie Crist crosses party line for James Mattis
WASHINGTON - Rep. Charlie Crist was one of 36 Democrats, and the only from Florida, who voted with Republicans this afternoon to provide James Mattis with a waiver so he can serve as Donald Trump's defense secretary.
The former general Mattis needed a waiver because under law defense secretaries must be out of uniform for at least seven years. He retired in 2013.
The Senate already passed the waiver, with Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in favor. Mattis is expected to gain confirmation from the Senate.
