Charlie Crist to keynote joint Pinellas/Hillsborough Democratic dinner in May
Former Gov. Charlie Crist will be the keynote speaker at the joint Kennedy-King Dinner this spring sponsored by the Hillsborough and Pinellas Democratic parties.
The May 11 event is at the Tampa Convention Center. More details to come, says the Pinellas Democratic Party.
Mitch Perry of Creative Loafing speculates this morning that the dinner will be Crist's night to announce he's running for governor again:
Conventional wisdom has it that both Crist and Alex Sink will make some announcement about their potential 2014 candidacies by this summer, and frankly, why would Crist make such a big splash in front of all of these local Democrats for any other reason than to declare he's running for governor? Crist became a Democrat for a reason last December, and the Florida (and even national) political media has been waiting with baited breath ever since for his expected announcement. May 11 seems as real a date as any when he will make such a declaration.
UPDATE: Peter Schorsch texted Crist today to ask if May 11 was the night. He writes on SaintPetersblog:
Asked by text message whether his May 11 keynote speech at the Hillsborough-Pinellas Counties’ Kennedy King Dinner would be the ideal time and place to make ‘The Announcement’, Crist responded with a very simple answer: “No.” Well, that ends that, right? Of course not.
