$1.2-million for Smith in July
The Rod Smith campaign today announced it had raised $1.2-million in July, including $822,877 in state matching funds. The campaign has also benefited from "3-pack" advertising paid by the state Democratic Party.
“With one month to go, our campaign is clicking on all cylinders," said Smith campaign manager Paul Neaville. "Our grassroots campaign is making an impact in every part of the state and our TV and mail are introducing Rod Smith to millions of voters.”
Think again, says Smith's primary rival, Jim Davis. The Davis campaign said it had raised $1.3-million in the same time period and that Smith's $96,000 in "hard" money was less than half of what Davis raised. Davis also boasted Friday of having about twice as much cash on hand - $3-million.
Still, Smith's numbers do not include the contributions from the Democratic Party, which went for a glossy mailer and a television commercial.
