30% have voted already and here's breakdown
So far 3.4-million Floridians have voted. That's 45% of the total votes cast in 2004. Democrats have cast 242,101 more votes than Republicans, according the Democrats' tally. Another 549,209 independent or minor party voters have voted. Of the 1,435,301 absentee ballots returned by Friday, 49.05 percent came from Republicans, and 35.73 percent came from Democrats. Of the 1,967,295 early votes cast, 52.61 percent were by Democrats and 30.58% by Republicans.
But the John McCain campaign stressed on a conference call that it has been aggessively targeting and turning out conservative Democrats and independents, so many of those non-Republican votes went for McCain. Campaign manager Rick Davis also said that when requested, but not yet returned absentee ballots are factored in, Florida Republicans have an advantage.
Meanwhile, the Barack Obama campaign says that 28 percent of the Democratic votes cast were from sporadic voters who often skip presidential elections. "This is not a case where we've thinned out all of our best supporters," said campaign manager Davis Plouffe, noting that Florida has more sporadic voters - 2.6-million Democrats did not vote in '04 - than any other battleground.
