50 apply for state Supreme Court spots

The list includes about a dozen minority candidates and eight women. One of the later applicants was Frank Ruben Jimenez, 43, who is currently serving as the U.S. Department of Navy’s general counsel, which takes a presidential nomination. Jimenez worked for four years under Gov. Jeb Bush and left Florida in 2002. Other applicants include former Rep. Dudley Goodlette, Judge Clay Roberts (who is among five judges on the 15-member First DCA who applied), statewide prosecutor George Richards of Cape Coral and state solicitor general Scott Makar.

As of late Thursday night, 38 applicants had given their names to be considered by the judicial nominating commission. Nearly a dozen applicants hail from Tallahassee, including 25 percent of the sitting First District Court of Appeal. Only five from the Tampa Bay area so far.
