527s that hold pressers?
The Coalition for Bipartisan Progress, a 527 formed by a bunch of former Rod Smith supporters that backs Charlie Crist, held a press conference in Tallahassee Thursday to criticize Davis' voting record.
They compared Davis' missed votes to a description of "job abandonment," which is detailed in the Congressional handbook for staffers.
Spokesman Mike Murtha acknowledged it was a bit weird to be holding a press conference and being so open about who they are. He says their group isn't your run of the mill "stealth" 527 group. (One Buzzer points out that Gallagher's 527, Coalition to Protect the American Dream, also held pressers.)
The group also isn't really in the same league, moneywise, as a lot of other 527s. Murtha said that the group has raised about $150 K so far. When asked if the group was going to take their message to television, Murtha laughed. The group didn't have enough money to hire somebody to create a website, so Murtha did it himself, adding, "It's pretty weak."
