Off-air GOP putdown of Palin

The Huffington Post has a slice of audio in which two Republican pundits, Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan, are caught (apparently unaware) on an open mike after their TV appearance ended. They went on to disparage John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. "I think they went for this -- excuse me -- political bull---t about narratives," Noonan is heard telling anchor Chuck Todd. She also says: "It's over."

"I come out of the blue state governor world -- (John) Engler, (Christine Todd) Whitman, (Tommy) Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush -- and these guys, this is how you win a Texas race. You run it up, and it's not going to work," Murphy said. He also describes Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison as appearing "all bummed out" that she was passed over by McCain. Ironically, on TV Todd referred to the pair's on-air comments as "lots of free advice" for McCain's strategists.
