Allen West open to possibility of running for Senate in 2012, but says 'probably not'

August

From Sun-Sentinel coverage last night of U.S. Rep. Allen West's meeting with the Palm Beach County Tea Party in Palm Beach Gardens:

West also said Wednesday that his intention — at this point — is to run for a second term representing his Broward and Palm Beach County district in Congress. But, he said, he is open to the possibility of seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 2012.

“I cracked it open enough so that people can slip a note under the door and I can read the note and I can write back on the note, ‘Probably not,’ and send it back out under the door,” West said before the Tea Party gathering.

He said he might speak with prominent Florida Republicans about the possibility. “But I don’t think people are really going to be able to move me,” he said.

West said he would announce his final decision shortly.
