Allen West stirs the news cycle again, saying he's 'the modern day Harriet Tubman'
U.S. Rep. Allen West is stirring the news again after an appearance on The O'Reilly Factor, in which he likened himself to Harriet Tubman and encouraged fellow African-Americans to get off the "21st Century plantation." The remarks -- he's made a similar point before -- drew a sharp rebuke from some black elected officials.
"Rep. West’s comparison of himself to one of our nation’s treasured human rights leaders is outrageously insulting and beyond offensive to African Americans everywhere,” said state Rep. Joe Gibbons, D-Hallandale Beach. “I join members of my party in calling on West to apologize for these unconscionable remarks.”
