Allen West's fundraising juggernaut rolls on
U.S. Rep. Allen West has done it again.
His campaign said today that he raised $1.9 million for the third quarter -- as much as Sen. Bill Nelson -- and that he has collected $4.1 million overall for his re-election campaign.
The South Florida Republican is sharply partisan, often controversial and gets national cable TV exposure -- the ingredients for strong fundraising. His Democratic challengers, Lois Frankel and Patrick Murphy, raised $440,000 and $313,000 respectively.
West's campaign said 42,100 people contributed and the average donation was $47.
Democrats note that West is spending money at a fast rate, too. "While he raised $2.2 million in Q1 and Q2, he’s also spent more than $787K on consultants alone and more than $1.3 million total," an operative said in an e-mail.
