Katherine Harris once vowed on national TV to plow $10-million of her own money into her campaign to unseat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson. Well, before the comes even close to hitting that mark, she's pulling money out of the campaign - $100,000 to reimburse part of the $3-million she put in earlier. Her campaign explained Friday that it's "to finish renovations of her historic home in Washington, D.C., which she will sell to fund the campaign if necessary."
The campaign says she raised $1,121,485.71 in the three months to June 30, and has $2,633,70s cash on hand. Hardly a weak fundraising quarter by the standard of most mortal politicians, but it sure has been awhile since Harris repeated that $10-million pledge.
