Another $650,000 for Davis
Democratic candidate for governor Jim Davis today reported raising more than $650,000 in the second quarter of 2006, which is his campaign’s biggest quarterly fundraising total so far. Davis’s second-quarter haul is larger than any previous Democratic candidate for governor since the state’s current campaign finance laws took effect in 1994. Overall, Davis has raised about $2.93 million to date – more than any previous Democratic candidate for governor in the last 12 years has raised over the comparable period.
“I’m pleased with the strong response we’ve gotten from citizens across Florida backing our campaign to bring new, independent leadership to Tallahassee,” said Davis. “We’ll use these financial resources to run the kind of grassroots campaign in every corner of Florida that we’ll need to win the Democratic primary and beat the Republicans in November.”
Since kicking off his campaign in February 2005, Davis has accepted more than 15,694 contributions and now has approximately $2.0 million cash on hand. Under the state’s campaign finance matching fund law, Davis’s campaign has now qualified for more than $1.1 million in matching funds and will have access to more than $3.1 million.
