Another combative U.S. Senate debate

Another debate between Florida's U.S. Senate candidates is in the books and we're working on full-court coverage. The debate held some notable exchanges between no-party Gov. Charlie Crist, Democrat Kendrick Meek and Republican Marco Rubio. But the best line came from Rubio as he was answering questions and getting talked over by Gov. Crist.

"I've never had a heckler at the debate," Rubio said. "I've had this heckler going on for two minutes."

Read a transcript of the exchange here.

So things went as CNN's Candy Crowley and the Times' Adam C. Smith tried to break some new ground. The discussion ranged from the Bush tax cuts, to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, immigration and the federal stimulus package. The exchanges were lively and aggressive despite being familiar to close watchers of this race.

This debate was sponsored by CNN, the St. Petersburg Times and the University of South Florida, which hosted the event. Read more here.
