Another GOP governor using the Rick Scott strategy of promotions with party money

Rick Scott isn't the only Republican governor adopting the unusual strategy of spending state party money to boost his image well in advance of a campaign for re-election. The New Jersey GOP this month launched a radio campaign pumping up Gov. Chris Christie. The ad features Christie talking about his no-new-taxes budget and tax cuts for small businesses, and features the tag line: "The New Jersey come back has begun. Let's not stop now." Like Scott, Christie has less-then-stellar approval ratings, with latest polls showing him at about 43 percent. Christie isn't up for re-election until 2013.

Sources say the New Jersey GOP spent more than $500,000 on the ads. By comparison, the Scott robo-calls were a bargain, costing the Republican Party of Florida $149,450 over the past three months, according to the latest fundraising reports.
