Arlene DBenigno joins Rick Scott campaign
Beth Reinhard reports: Political consultant Arlene DiBenigno, who has worked for Gov. Charlie Crist, former Gov. Jeb Bush and presidential nominee John McCain, is breaking with the Republican establishment and working for Rick Scott's campaign for governor.
Scott is challenging Attorney General Bill McCollum, a fixture in Republican politics in Florida for two decades.
"I think Rick represents a bold new vision for Florida,'' DiBenigno said. "People are hungry for something more than politics as usual.''
Scott has been heavily advertising his support for a crackdown on illegal immigration in Arizona. McCollum was initially critical of the law, then said he supported it for Florida, then said Florida didn't need such a law.
"One thing you can respect about Rick Scott is that you're always going to know what Rick Scott stands on the issues,'' DiBenigno said.
Asked why voters should trust Scott when his former company, Columbia/HCA, was fined $1.7 billion for cheating Medicare, she said, "He accepts responsibility for what happened on his watch and learned some very hard lessons."
