Armando Gutierrez's big haul
GOP congressional candidate Armando Gutierrez of Orlando is backing up a stream of endorsements with healthy campaign finances. He reports raising $210,000 for the quarter and put $100,000 of his own money into the race. He says he has $300,000 cash on hand.
"Armando Gutierrez has proven that he is the strongest Republican to take on Alan Grayson," finance co-chairman Fred Leonhardt said. "He can raise the necessary funds to defeat Grayson and has the ability to reach out across the community to bring Republicans, Independents and conservative Democrats together behind his campaign to bring integrity and true leadership to District 8."
Grayson, though, raised $850,000 in the same period and has $1 million on hand, according to a source close to the campaign. Gutierrez has shown a lot of hustle but has so far not been able to ward off a string of other Republicans, the latest being state Rep. Kurt Kelly.
