Attack mailer heats up SD3
In politics, no one forgets.
Richard Corcoran's 1998 bid for state House is being used against him in the current Senate District 3 contest. Political consultant Rocky Pennington has sent this mailer blasting Corcoran for "outright lies" in that race against Nancy Argenziano. Pennington is doing work for Charlie Dean, one of Corcoran's Republican primary opponents, but said he acted alone. Pennington's Committee to Protect Florida financed the piece.
"I'm alerting my neighbors to the fact that Richard has run negative and untruthful campaigns in the past and if history is any indication," Pennington said, "my neighbors can expect he'll try to do the same thing to Charlie Dean and Dennis Baxley."
Corcoran said he is focused on issues: property taxes and insurance. "People are tired of petty politics and I'm not going to engage in that," he said while working the Sugarmill Woods development in Citrus County. Corcoran said he has spent his days, sun up to sun down, walking the district. He's getting help today from Sen. Mike Fasano.
Baxley tried to gain the high ground, noting in a statement that he signed a fair campaign pledge. "To my knowledge, my two opponents have yet to sign the pledge, and I am hopeful that they will do it and keep this campaign clean and this state senate district in Republican hands.” Sounds good except Corcoran reportedly told Baxley the other day that he signed the oath.
