Atwater, Alexander, Lawson headed to D.C.
State Senate President Jeff Atwater along with Sens. J.D. Alexander and Al Lawson will travel to Washington on Monday to meet with members of the congressional delegation. The topic: High speed rail and the cost of a planned expansion of Medicaid.
The lawmakers plan to sit down with Sens. George LeMieux and Bill Nelson, and meetings are being set up with House members. LeMieux intends to press the lawmakers to revive SunRail by the end of the year, to bolster the state's bid for stimulus money for high speed rail.
"I’m very concern that if we don’t pass SunRail that we’re not going to get the more than $2.5 billion dollars for high speed," LeMieux said.
