Ausley calls on Crist to set special session date

Democratic CFO candidate Loranne Ausley -- looking to score political points -- called on Gov. Charlie Crist to set a date for a special session to provide relief to businesses hurt by the oil spill.

Ausley is trying to make it look like Republican Senate President Jeff Atwater is dragging his feet. But he called for a second special session for the same thing last month. It is the House that is taking its time, as it holds teleconference study group meetings. Legislative leaders suggested in July that an oil relief session could come in September, but no date is set yet.

“Floridians just don’t have any trust in Tallahassee anymore, especially after Senate President Jeff Atwater’s refusal to let voters decide about banning drilling off of our beaches,” Ausley said in a press release. “It’s been well over 100 days since this disaster, and it’s past time our small business owners be provided some sort of relief. Because Jeff Atwater seems incapable of taking action, I’m calling on Governor Crist to set a date and the parameters for a special session that provides meaningful relief to our small business owners and residents in Northwest Florida.”
