Ausman strikes back
Quick on the heels of Karen Thurman's reply comes another missive from Jon Ausman:
"While I do appreciate the fact some like to keep their thinking secret we represent 4,200,000 Democrats who are anxious and uneasy about the conflict between the Democratic National Committee and Florida Democrats.
We have been aware of this difficulty for eight months. You would think that we would be meeting in groups building a vision of what we want, seeking a consensus and evaluating the different plans and how they impact the factors above.
We have not done so.
Yet, next week there has to be an announcement of so sort because the deadline for making a decision is 29 September 2007 and the requirements for previous notice, and common decency, require the sharing of what the FDP headquarters is going to recommend. Frankly, this recommendation should already have been made so that the collective brilliance of the state executive committee could examine it for unintended consequences and make a very informed, well-talked out decision.
The Florida Democratic Party Chair implies that sharing phone numbers, addresses and email contacts of County Party Officers and State Executive Committee Members is wrong. I disagree. First, most of this information is public information available at each of our County Supervisor of Elections. Second, every Democratic voter has a right to know who their party leaders are and how to reach them if they wish to express a decision.
If every vote counts and our voice should be heard, as Senator Bill Nelson says, then we, in the Sunshine State, should be available to hear that vote. We should willingly encourage Democrats to come forward to share their opinion rather than hide iinformation which is in the public domain in the first place.
Regardless, I am looking forward to finally seeing the FDP HQs recommendation. Since the recommended plan has been touted about behind closed doors and with a large number of elected officials, let see what the final recommendation is before saying the original email sharing the Vote by Mail (VBM) information is wrong.
If I ever err, I would rather err sharing too much information than by keeping information away from the Democrats we collectively represent.
If you have any questions, please call me at ...
With respect, I am,
Jon M. Ausman, Member
Democratic National Committee
