Baxley, Dean push on
Richard Corcoran is out but Dennis Baxley and Charlie Dean qualified today for SD3. They will face Don Curtis of Perry in the Republican primary. (Photo: Baxley showed up with Rep. Frank Attkisson and Sen. Carey Baker)
Baxley spoke to Corcoran on Monday morning. "He's more comfortable not running right now," Baxley said. "We're always afraid of a bloodbath in this kind of a primary, and I certainly want to avoid that ... I'm definitely going to stay on the issues. I'm not about stopping anybody."
Baker joked about his endorsement of Baxley at a time when three key Senate leaders (Ken Pruitt, Lisa Carlton and Dan Webster) all endorsed Corcoran, only to see Corcoran drop out of the race. Said Baker: "I know better than to put a saddle on a dead horse."
Dean's consultant Rockie Pennington put out two mailers critical of Corcoran. "He said 'This has nothing to do with you, this is personal,' " Dean said of Pennington. Asked if he agreed with the ads, Dean said: "I don't think it's for me to agree or disagree. There are events that happen in politics."
