Baxley digs Romney, Keller digs McCain
Because he's a Mormon and because he once sounded like a moderate on issues on like abortion and gay rights, a lot of folks have been doubting Mitt Romney's ability to win over devoted social conservatives. Well, it seems one of Florida's leading voices for values voters, state Rep. Dennis Baxley, is more than comfortable with the former Massachusetts governor.
"I'm a big Romney fan,'' the Ocala Republican told Buzz. "He is the one candidate that I see in the winnable tier that has stepped up to address values issues in a very challenging climate (MA). He's the kinda fresh-faced leader that is in a winnable posture that value conservatives need to run to."
Like Romney backer Tom Feeney, Baxley is persuaded the Romney has matured an evolved sincerely on some of the social issues on which he's now being cast as a flip-flopper. And because he sees a commitment on issues that matter profoundly to to him, Baxley is comfortable supporting someone with some religious beliefs is disagrees with. Like what? "Basically everything Joseph Smith had to say in new revelations."
In other Florida presidential news, look for U.S. Rep. Ric Keller of Orlando to jump aboard the McCain train soon.
