Bill Nelson easily wins third term
ORLANDO — Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson won a third term in the U.S. Senate, easily besting Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack IV of Fort Myers.
Nelson, 70, overcame repeated attacks from outside spending groups, which spent millions attacking his vote in favor of the 2010 health care law.
Mack, 45, the descendant of a former senator and baseball icon of the same name, ran as an ardent conservative who would slash federal spending. Nelson's attack ads focused on Mack's youthful bar brawls and missed votes in Congress.
