Bill Nelson takes up cause of Marine veteran jailed in Mexico
Sen. Bill Nelson has taken up the case of a Marine veteran from Florida who is in a Mexican jail for transporting a shotgun into the country while traveling to Costa Rica.
"Enough is a enough," Nelson said on the Senate floor this afternoon. He said he had called the Mexican ambassador for help, "and I can't get a return call."
Nelson said he'll speak about issue every day if necessary. "Bring this Marine home."
UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: Nelson's office: "Mexico’s Ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhán, just returned Sen. Nelson’s call. The ambassador told Nelson he’s asking his country’s attorney general for an explanation as to why it’s taken since August to resolve Jon Hammar’s case."
